My latest project is with a new client from http://www.nevisblog.com/this is a news site running an old version of Wordpress (2.3) hosted with on 1and1 and requiring a transfer to Godaddy.  Below are my suggestions on making the transfer not only east but successful as well.

If you are moving the services to Godaddy, one drawback is that they are a  bit slow in the back end and their admin panel is not as simple as the one available through 1and1.  (As a note, we are hosted with 1and1.)   Also, transferring to the godaddy’s panel is never smooth, you tend to feel like you have to do things twice, even 3 times.  First add a domain , then go to the hosting panel, then visit the domain panel and each place has it’s own changes.

• Step 1     Back up the Mysql from your current database.
• Step 2     Upload the new sql file to the new location.   I select the Make tables first then I    add the insert into  table records for each table.
• Step 3     Download and back up your site file, then Upload your current Wordpress files just as they are.
• Step 4     Login to the new database, visit wp_options table and change the URL and domain URL to point to the current location.
• Step 5    Make sure your widgest are installed.  In some cases you might need to deactivate and activate them again.

Well, that’s pretty much how the transfer is done besides waiting for godaddy to finalize all the changes and removing it from pending.   So make sure you get a Dedicated IP in those cases.

That why I am personally staying with 1and1.
